Timeframe for Processing
The timeframe for completing the four procedural steps, with our assistance in producing the necessary documents, usually ranges from just a few weeks to several months.
The estimated time will vary depending in part on the county you live in and on the degree of cooperation between you and your spouse in the notification process.
Sometimes the process will take considerably longer, even in uncontested cases:
- You may need more time to negotiate a Marital Settlement Agreement to deal with child-related and/or financial issues.
- You may have problems locating your spouse so that he/she may receive notification.
Generally it is best not to set a specific date for something (such as remarriage or an out-of-state move) that counts on the completion of the divorce by that date.
